A new study suggests that insoluble fiber may improve the body's use of insulin, which could help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in people who are overweight.
These scientists found that being on the fiber-rich diet for three days "significantly improved whole-body insulin sensitivity." Since a decline in insulin sensitivity is a precursor to type 2 diabetes, they suggested that consuming insoluble fiber -- which raised insulin sensitivity levels -- could, theoretically, help reduce diabetes risk.
